Alloggiati Web: how to register your guests with the Italian police (2026 guide)

By Matteo AnzideiPublished 6 min read

In short

Every host in Italy must report each guest’s identity to the police through Alloggiati Web, the Polizia di Stato portal, within 24 hours of arrival — or within 6 hours for stays of 24 hours or less. You need credentials from your provincial Questura before your first guest, you must keep the digital receipts for five years, and failing to report is an offence punishable by up to three months’ arrest or a fine of up to €206.

What is Alloggiati Web and who must use it?

Alloggiati Web (alloggiatiweb.poliziadistato.it) is the State Police’s online service where accommodation providers send the personal details of the people they host. Each guest record is called a schedina (literally “little form”). The data goes to the Questura — the provincial police headquarters — of the area where the property is.

The obligation comes from article 109 of the TULPS (Italy’s 1931 public-security law). Since 2018, art. 19-bis of Decree-Law 113/2018 extended it to anyone renting or subletting a home, or part of one, with contracts shorter than 30 days — so every Airbnb or Booking.com host is covered, not just hotels. Since 2013 the online portal is the only accepted channel: emailing or handing in guest lists on paper isn’t allowed.

How do you get Alloggiati Web credentials?

Credentials are issued by the Questura of the province where your rental is located. Each Questura publishes its own request form (there’s usually a specific one for short-term rentals) and its own certified-email (PEC) address.

  1. 01

    Download your Questura’s form

Search “Questura di [your province] Alloggiati Web” on questure.poliziadistato.it and pick the short-term rental (affitti brevi / locazioni brevi) form.

  2. 02

    Attach the documents

Typically a copy of your identity document and, depending on the Questura, proof that you have the property available. Send everything as PDF — phone photos are often refused.

  3. 03

    Send it by PEC

PEC is Italy’s certified email. If you don’t have one, a local commercialista or manager can send it for you. Incomplete requests are rejected.

  4. 04

Wait for your username and password

Questure issue credentials within 30 days at most. You can’t start hosting until you have them, because you’d have no way to report your guests.

Since January 2022 the portal works with access codes on any device — PC, Mac, tablet or smartphone. If you lose the password, the PUK code sent with your credentials lets you reset it yourself.

What are the Alloggiati Web deadlines?

What data do you send for each guest?

Every guest must be registered, including children. But you don’t need full document details for everyone: when people travel together, you enter one lead guest — the head of the family (capofamiglia) or group leader (capogruppo) — with their identity document, and link the others to them with their personal details only.

  • For everyone: surname, first name, sex, date and place of birth, citizenship.
  • For the single guest, head of family or group leader: also the document type, number and place of issue.
  • Stay details: arrival date and number of nights the guest declares at check-in.
  • Foreign guests: in “place of birth” and “place of issue” you enter the country, not an Italian municipality.

Not sure a foreign ID is genuine or where to read its data? The EU’s PRADO register (consilium.europa.eu/prado) shows authentic identity and travel documents. Unaccompanied minors can’t be hosted, and if a guest refuses to show a valid ID, Questure advise contacting the police.

How do you send the schedine manually?

  1. 1Collect each guest’s ID before or at arrival and check it against the person in front of you.
  2. 2Log in to alloggiatiweb.poliziadistato.it with your credentials and access code.
  3. 3Choose the guest type (single guest, head of family, group leader, family member, group member) and fill in the form.
  4. 4Repeat for every guest in the booking, linking companions to the lead guest.
  5. 5Send, then check that every record was accepted; correct and re-send any that were rejected.
  6. 6Come back the next day to download the receipt (ricevuta).

Made a mistake? Data that’s already been sent can’t be edited — not by you, not by the Questura. Send a new, correct schedina as soon as you notice. That’s one reason to collect documents in advance rather than typing them in a rush at the door.

What about receipts, and how long must you keep them?

The portal issues a digital receipt the day after you send your schedine. It stays downloadable for 30 days only, and you must keep it for five years. You don’t need to print it, but you must be able to show it if the police inspect. Make downloading receipts a weekly habit, or use a tool that does it for you.

What happens if you don’t register guests?

Failing to report guests to the QuesturaArrest up to 3 months or a fine up to €206Art. 17 TULPS

It’s a criminal offence, not just an administrative fine, and technical problems aren’t an excuse. The Questura di Grosseto’s FAQ, for example, says that if your computer breaks you must still send from another device within the deadline; only an outage of the national system allows a fallback via PEC, with the Questura’s authorisation.

Can you automate Alloggiati Web?

Yes. Software can send the schedine for you, using your own credentials. Here’s what Maurice does:

  • Guests complete online check-in and upload their ID; Maurice collects and checks their documents.
  • Maurice sends the schedine to Alloggiati Web automatically, on time.
  • Your receipts are kept for you, so you don’t lose them after 30 days.

Maurice works with your own Questura credentials and takes the typing, the deadlines and the receipt chasing off your plate. Many regions also require tourism statistics for ISTAT; Maurice can send those too through Ross1000 and other regional portals in supported regions. If you haven’t requested your national code yet, start with our guide to Italy’s CIN.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need Alloggiati Web if I only rent on Airbnb?

Yes. The platform doesn’t report guests to the police for you. Since 2018 the art. 109 TULPS obligations apply to every rental or sublet shorter than 30 days, whatever channel the booking came from, so you need your own credentials from the Questura and must send a schedina for every guest.

Do I have to register children?

Yes. Every guest, including minors, must be registered on Alloggiati Web. Document details are only required for the lead guest — the single guest, the head of the family or the group leader — while companions are linked to them with their personal details.

What if a guest arrives late at night?

The 24-hour clock starts at arrival, so a midnight arrival gives you until the following night. For stays of 24 hours or less you only have six hours. Collecting documents during online check-in before arrival means the data is ready the moment the guest walks in.

Can someone else send the schedine for me?

Credentials are personal to the accommodation, but you can rely on a manager, a professional or software using your credentials to send on your behalf. The legal responsibility stays with the host, so make sure whoever handles it meets the deadlines and keeps the receipts.

How long do I keep Alloggiati Web receipts?

Five years, in digital form. The portal only keeps each receipt downloadable for 30 days after it’s issued, so download them regularly and store them somewhere safe, such as a cloud folder or an external drive. Police can ask to see them during an inspection.
